Amerman Racing’s Oscar Performance got away with slow early fractions and had plenty left in reserve late to score a frontrunning victory the $8000,000 Ricoh Woodbine Mile (G1T) at Woodbine Sept. 15.
Last-out Play the King Stakes (G2T) winner Mr Havercamp loomed at the top of the lane and moved alongside in the stretch, but the Brian Lynch-trained Oscar Performance never let his lone challenger by.
The 4-year-old Kitten’s Joy colt didn’t break best but quickly took command of the race and set fractions of :24.60, :48.78, and 1:11.49 through six furlongs and finished off the distance in 1:33.12 for his fourth grade 1 score.
“I was really emotional past the wire because this is one of my favorite horses. He gave me my first BC win and to see him last time (at Arlington) loading up to the barn was painful for me. I’m just very happy he’s back at the highest level.”
