Mr. Amore Stables’ homebred Firenze Fire got back in the winner’s circle after Saturday’s Grade 3 Gallant Bob Stakes, surviving an attempt by runner-up Whereshetoldmetogo to “savage” him in the final 100 yards. Ridden by Irad Ortiz, Jr. for trainer Jason Servis, Firenze Fire battled hard down the stretch to win by a neck at odds of 7-5. The 3-year-old son of Poseidon’s Warrior completed six furlongs over Parx Racing’s fast main track in 1:11 1/5.
“The horse ran super,” said Servis. “He just ran smooth. Irad saved all the ground all the way around. We go to the Breeders’ Cup Sprint now, what can I say. That’s got to put him over a million dollars. I mean he’s been great. Ron [owner/breeder Ron Lombardi] had the mare sitting, didn’t want to breed her, then he ended up breeding her. He’s a special horse.
“We have the option to do the Mile or the Sprint, but I’ll talk to Ron. We’ll see.”
