Diversify led every step of the way Saturday in Belmont Park’s Grade 2, $700,000 Suburban Stakes, surviving fast opening fractions to finish 1 1/4 miles in a blistering 1:59.84.
Jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. hustled the 5-year-old gelding from the gate. From there, the two were never threatened, pulling away to win by open lengths.

A son of Bellamy Road, Diversify made the Suburban his sixth win at Belmont Park from eight starts there. The Rick Violette trainee earned his biggest score last fall in the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup Stakes. Coming off a win in the Commentator Stakes, restricted to New York-breds, the Suburban marked Diversify’s first graded score since the Jockey Club Gold Cup.
