Larry Best’s Cambier Parc earned her first graded stakes win in Saturday’s G3 Herecomesthebride, delivering at odds of 4-5 for trainer Chad Brown and jockey Jose Ortiz. The 3-year-old daughter of Medaglia d’Oro covered 1 1/16 miles over Gulfstream Park’s firm turf course in 1:42.03 to hit the wire about three-quarters of a length better than Princesa Carolina.
Favored at 4-5 in a field of eight, Cambier Parc ($3.60) ran 1 1/16 miles in 1:42.03 over a firm turf course to give jockey Jose Ortiz his second straight win in the Herecomesthebride, following Thewayiam last winter. It was also the second for trainer Chad Brown, who was first with 2014 female turf champion Dayatthespa in 2012.
Ortiz rated Cambier Parc in second to the outside of Belle Laura, making her first start since the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1) Nov. 2, through fractions of 24.48 and 49.67 seconds. Cambier Parc forged a short lead on the turf after going six furlongs in 1:13.13, putting away Belle Laura past the eighth pole as Princesa Carolina came with a rush on the outside.
“She broke really well,” Ortiz said. “I wasn’t sure if anybody else was going to go to the lead, but [Belle Laura] went ahead and I was sitting in a beautiful position in the first turn so I just tried to get her to relax, and she did. She gave me everything I asked for and she was there for me.”
